If we’re serious about helping young athletes grow, we need to stop obsessing over stats and start measuring how well they assist others and how well they’re managing mentally.
"According to national surveys: around 30–50% of student‑athletes experience anxiety or depression, and over half report moderate‑to‑extreme stress—yet only 10% seek help."
Because the real game isn’t just on the field or court.
It’s in how they treat people.
It’s in how they handle pressure.
That’s where growth happens.
And this isn’t just theory. I’ve spent over 30 years coaching—from high school gyms to college floors. I’ve lived it. As a former Division I player and now CEO of Jeff Lisath Basketball Ministries, my mission is to build strong athletes—and even stronger people.
With a background in Physical Education, Leadership Ministry, and Youth Counseling, I’ve learned this:
When kids or people in general are mentally healthy and willing to assist others, there’s no limit to what a team can become.
